history

The year of construction of the building is not recorded. However, the construction could be related to Kilmaur's appointment as Burgh of Barony in 1527. The oldest mention of the town hall comes from 1667; another from 1743. At that time the bell tower did not yet exist. It wasn't added until 1800. The tower clock dates from 1866. During the 19th century the building housed a fire station.
