Old Town Hall (Seeheim)

The old town hall in Seeheim (Seeheim-Jugenheim) was the town hall and is a listed building .

history

According to the inscription, the town hall was built in 1599. During the Thirty Years' War, a large part of the community was destroyed by fires, the town hall was preserved thanks to the stone rectory from 1589, which is diagonally opposite and shielded the town hall from the fire. An extension was built on the east side in the 19th century. In 1980, the original design was restored through a renovation. Today, among other things, the local history museum is located in the building.

Building description

The ground floor is a solid construction, with a half-timbered floor above it. At the corner of the house there is a two-story gable. The building is crowned by a square clock and bell tower. On the east side there is a two-flight flight of stairs that leads to the three-zone hall and the two council rooms on the upper floor.

The building is considered to be one of the most beautiful town halls on Bergstrasse from the Renaissance period. The main reason for this is the elaborate decorative framework. The posts and frames of the Franconian bay windows are decorated with plant motifs, egg sticks, volutes and grooves. The framework also shows man forms with additional curved head braces and elaborate parapet areas.

In front of the town hall there is a running fountain with a column and a statue of Florian from 1910. The town hall is a listed building because of its artistic, historical and urban significance.
