The Hamborner Altmarkt is the central square in Duisburg-Alt Hamborn . Today it is the largest weekly market in Duisburg . The area around the Altmarkt and the town hall with its neighboring town hall center is now the center of the Alt-Hamborn district.

location

The square has a size of 250 m by 55 m. It is bounded in the north by Richterstrasse and in the south by Alleestrasse. The Altmarkt is not only a marketplace, but also a large car park on days when there is no market.

history

The weekly market on today's Altmarkt goes back to an official resolution from 1898. On the square is one of the oldest drinking halls in the Ruhr area , a green wooden pavilion that the mineral water manufacturer Theodor Küppers had built at the beginning of the 20th century. Today the pavilion is a monument .

To the east of the square, at the confluence of the parallel street, there is another monument: a two-storey doctor's house built between 1892 and 1893 with an L-shaped utility wing on the east side.
