history
With the expansion of the Major Leagues by two teams (the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Tampa Bay Rays ) in 1998, there were also changes in the minor leagues. The Eastern League was expanded by two teams, with the already established Erie SeaWolves getting one place . The second franchise went to Altoona, the team was named "Altoona Curve" after a landmark of the region, the Horseshoe Curve , as well as based on the Curveball .
The team played their first season in 1999, and the Curves made it into the play-offs for the first time in 2003. The following year, the team reached the final of the Eastern League, where they were subject to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats . Until 2010, the period from 2003 to 2006 was the most successful time for Altoona with four play-offs in a row.
In 2010 the Altoona Curve won the Eastern League for the first time with a 3-1 win against Trenton Thunder .
