The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are an American minor league baseball team based in Binghamton , New York . The team that plays in the Eastern League is the Double-A team. It is a partner team of the New York Mets . The Rumble Ponies play at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton.

history

In 1976 the franchise starred as Williamsport Bills in Williamsport , Pennsylvania . It played in 1977 and 1978 in Jersey City , New Jersey, and then from 1979 to 1984 in Buffalo , New York .

It returned to Williamsport in 1987. The team was a partner team of the Cleveland Indians in 1987 and 1988 and the Seattle Mariners in the 1989 and 1990 seasons.

It was bought by the New York Mets in 1991 and moved to Binghamton in 1992 as the Binghamton Mets.

In 2016, the team announced a plan to stay in Binghamton for the foreseeable future and change the team's name. From May 17 to June 1, the team hosted a name of the team competition on their website. The finalists were the names Bullheads, the Gobblers, Rocking Horses, Rumble Ponies, Stud Muffins and Timber Jockeys. On November 3, 2016, the team announced that it would be renamed Binghamton Rumble Ponies and released a new logo.
