The Altun-Alem Mosque ( Bosnian Altun-Alem džamija ; Serbian - Cyrillic Алтун – алем ) is a mosque in the Serbian city ​​of Novi Pazar . It is located in the Straße des 1. Mai (formerly Stambolski).

history

The mosque was built in the first half of the 16th century by the architect Abdul Gani (first mentioned in 1528). It has been under monument protection as a cultural monument of great importance (Spomenici kulture od velikog značaja) since 1993 .

investment

The mosque, a structure with a dome on a low drum , is located within a walled complex on May 1st Street. The main room is built alternately from rows of bricks and rubble stone. The prayer niche ( mihrāb ) and the gallery ( mahfil ) on the north-west wall are richly decorated. The mosque has a porch that is open on two sides and is crowned by two domes. The vestibule and minaret are made of sandstone blocks.
