Alvin Tan

Alvin Tan Sheng Hui (born June 30, 1980 in Singapore ) is a Singaporean politician ( People's Action Party ) who is currently a member of the Singapore Parliament for the constituency of Tanjong Pagar GRC (Moulmein-Cairnhill). Before 2020, Melvin Yong was MP for Moulmein-Cairnhill from 2015 to 2020, and before that, Khaw Boon Wan and Lui Tuck Yew cut their teeth in those constituencies.

education

Tan holds a world-class bachelor's degree in economics from Sydney University and a master's in public policy from Harvard University . There he received the International and Global Affairs Fellowship of the Belfer Center of Science and International Affairs in 2009. He later announced that he was not qualified to study at a local university.

Career

After graduating, Tan worked in various organizations:

  • Executive Office of United Nations (June 2009 - April 2010)
  • Vice-President and Executive Director of Asia Pacific, Goldman Sachs (July 2010 - April 2015)
  • Facebook Head of Public Policy (March 2015 - February 2019)
  • Facebook Head of Trust and Society (February 2019 - July 2019)
  • LinkedIn Director and Head of Public Policy and Economics (Asia Pacific) (July 2019 - July 2020)
  • Minister of State for Trade and Industry, and Culture, Community and Youth (July 2020 - gift)

Also, Alvin Tan worked under Lily Neo when she was a MP before Josephine Teo took over the Chinatown constituency in 2020.
