Josephine Teo Li Min (birth name: Yong Li Min ; Chinese  杨莉明 , Tamil ஜோஸஃபின் டியோ ; * July 8, 1968 ) is a politician of the People's Action Party (PAP) in Singapore , who has been a member of parliament since 2006 and was a minister several times. She has currently been Minister of Labor since 2018 and Second Minister of the Interior since 2017.

Life

Josephine Teo Li Min graduated from the National University of Singapore after attending Dunman High School and Raffles Junior College . In 1990 she was awarded the Rachel Meyer Book Prize as best student . After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1990, she obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Social Science) in 1991 and then began postgraduate studies in economics at the London School of Economics and Political with the support of a scholarship from the Authority for Economic Development Science (LSE), which she completed in 1992 with a Master of Science (M.Sc. Economics). From 1992 to 2002 she herself worked for the Economic Development Board ( EDB ) and in the meantime also worked in the Suzhou Industrial Park , an economic zone in Suzhou operated jointly by the People's Republic of China and Singapore . She then started working for the Agency for Science, Technology and Research A * STAR (Agency for Science, Technology and Research) in 2002 and in 2005 became Assistant Secretary General of the National Trades Union Congress ( NTUC ) .

On April 27, 2006, Josephine Teo was the first time member of parliament for the People's Action Party (PAP) in the Group Representation Constituency (Group Representation Constituency) Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC and has represented this constituency ever since. During her long membership in parliament, she was a member of numerous committees. She served intermittently as Chair of the Joint Education Committee of Government and Parliament, as well as the union representative on the government-appointed Economic Strategies Committee and co-chair of its Inclusive Growth Sub-Committee. She was also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Business China , a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening Singapore's intergovernmental cultural foundations in China.

On May 21, 2011, Josephine Teo took over an office in the government for the first time and between May 21, 2011 and August 31, 2013 held the post of Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and as Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance in the cabinet of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong . She was then Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance from September 1, 2013 to September 30, 2015 and, at the same time, Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport between September 1, 2013 and April 30, 2017. From October 1, 2015 to April 30, 2017, she also assumed the positions of Senior Minister of State in the Foreign Ministry and as Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office. She then acted as Second Foreign Minister from May 1 to September 10, 2017, as well as Second Minister for Labor from May 1, 2017 to April 30, 2018, and as Minister from May 1, 2017 to April 30, 2018 in the office of Prime Minister.

Josephine Teo has been the Second Minister for Home Affairs since September 11, 2017 and Minister for Manpower since May 1, 2018 .

Her marriage to Teo Eng Cheong had three children.
