IC 4436 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E1 with an active galaxy core in the constellation Bear Keeper in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 436 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 1019 , IC 1020 , IC 4423 , IC 4427 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on June 21, 1895 .
