Always-on

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under Always-on (short for always online ) is defined as the permanent connection to the Internet.

Leased lines and other Internet access billed at a flat rate or using a volume tariff are suitable for such a connection .

For this purpose, connections that are priced using a time tariff are suboptimal. This is often the case , for example, with narrow-band dial-up access.

In contrast, if a connection to the Internet is only established for a short time when required, this is referred to as dial-on-demand technology or short-hold mode.
