Alyssa Monks

Alyssa Monks (born November 27, 1977 in Ridgewood , New Jersey ) is an American painter .

Life

Alyssa started oil painting as a child. She attended The New School in New York and Montclair State University , then she received her Bachelor of Art from Boston College in 1999. During this time she also studied at Lorenzo de'Medici in Florence. In 2001, Alyssa received her Masters of Fine Arts from the New York Academy of Art , School of Figurative Painting, under Vincent Desiderio . Her career led her to Fullerton College in 2006 to give lectures at universities and institutions. She has taught Flesh Painting at the New York Academy of Art, Montclair State University and the Lyme Academy School of Fine Arts. From 2010, Alyssa Monk served on the Board of Trustees of the Academy of Art in New York City .

Monk's paintings have been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions, including Intimacy at the Kunstmuseum in Ahlen and Reconfiguring the Body in American Art, 1820–2009 at the National Academy Museum of Fine Arts , New York. Her work is featured in public and private collections, including the Savannah College of Arts, the Somerset Art Association, and the collections of Howard Tullman , Danielle Steele, and Eric Fischl .

Alyssa has received three awards from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant for Painting.
