Alzen is part of the Höfen district of Monschau .
location
Alzen adjoins the center of Höfen to the southwest. The natural border forms a strong depression, the slopes of which are called "Sief" on the Höfen side and "Kauferberg" on the Alzen side.
history
A farm in Alzen was first mentioned as Altzina in 1444, when the forester Johann von der Hardt received it as a fief from Duke Gerhard II. Von Jülich-Berg . This fiefdom remained in the hands of the forest administration until 1794. Alzen still has a few farms, which are becoming more and more rare in the Monschau Heckenland.
Worth seeing
- From the end of March to the middle of May, Alzen is the starting point for popular daffodil hikes in the Perlenbach-Fuhrtsbachtal nature reserve that adjoins the district .
- Alzen is visually characterized by the typical red beech hedges, some of which can reach considerable dimensions of up to 9 meters in height.
