United States Chamber of Commerce
The United States Chamber of Commerce is a private law chamber of commerce in the United States . It is the world's largest business association and represents
- 3 million companies through local chambers and associated associations. (Direct members are some 10,000 companies)
- 2,800 state and local chambers
- 830 business associations
The chamber has been in Lafayette Park, the northern section of President's Park across from the White House in Washington, DC , since 1925. It employs political scientists , lobbyists and lawyers. Her motto is "to develop human development through an economic, political and social system based on freedom, initiative, opportunity and responsibility."
President and CEO is Tom J. Donohue , who is also President of the Center for International Private Enterprise , a program of the National Endowment for Democracy .
The Chamber spent US $ 267 million on political lobbying in the US between 1998 and 2005, making it the largest influencer on US politics by a clear margin compared to the American Medical Association . It has a branch in Belgium that represents US business interests in the European Union , as well as numerous others in Vietnam , Bangladesh , New Zealand , Italy and Germany.
