At the Bagehl
The Rostock Street Am Bagehl is a short alley from the intersection Mill Road / On Arches in the north to the already to the stone gate suburb associated Barlach Ernst-road leads, but is separated from it by streetcar tracks. The Bagehl is part of Rostock's old town .
The Am Bagehl street is dominated by the Rostock Nikolaikirche , whose former churchyard was located on the north side of the Bagehl. In addition, the street Am Bagehl led to the Mühlentor , one of the nine Rostock country gates .
The origin of the name of Bagehl, which was first mentioned in 1481, is difficult to determine. It may be derived from "bugen", the Low German form of bow, since the Rostock city wall actually bent or curved at this point. Mainly millers lived on the Bagehl, which seems plausible due to the close proximity to the water mills on the Oberwarnow .
Until 1978, a tram line from Steintor ran through Bagehl, via Altschmiedestraße and Slüterstraße to Dierkow .
