Amadeus II (Montfaucon)
Amadeus II of Montfaucon ( French Amédée , * 1130 ; † 1195 ) was Lord of Montfaucon , as well as (as Amadeus I ) Count of Mömpelgard (Montbéliard).
He was the son of Richard II, Lord of Montfaucon, and Sophia of Montbéliard († 1148). He inherited the dominion of Montfaucon from his father. At the death of his maternal grandfather, Dietrich II von Mömpelgard, he inherited the county of Montbéliard from him in 1163.
He married (possibly a second marriage) Beatrix von Grandson-Joinville.
He had several daughters and two sons. Of the latter he was followed by the elder, Richard III, as Count von Mömpelgard, the younger, Walter († 1212) went to the Holy Land as a crusader and made a career there as constable of Jerusalem and regent of Cyprus.
Amadeus opposed the fourth son of the emperor , Count Palatine Otto I of Burgundy , who wanted to extend his sphere of influence to Amadeus' burdens on Alsace. During a negotiation with Otto in the spring of 1195, he was killed by Otto himself.
