Amanda Vanstone

Amanda Vanstone (born December 7, 1952 in Adelaide , South Australia ) is an Australian politician .

Life

After finishing school, Vanstone studied arts and law at the University of Adelaide .

Vanstone became a member of the Liberal Party of Australia . In 1984 she became a senator in the Australian Senate , of which she was a member until 2007.

From 1996 to 1997, Vanstone was Minister for Labor, Education and Youth. From 2001 to 2003, Vanstone was Secretary of the Family, Housing and Public Services. From 2003 to 2006, Vanstone was Minister for Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs. Vanstone was Secretary of State for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs from 2006 to 2007. She is married to attorney Tony Vanstone.

In June 2007 Vanstone was appointed Australian Ambassador to Italy.
