Amastigot

The picture shows parasites of the species Leishmania tropica in the amastigot (flagellate) form (the small, red dots) in macrophages .
Amastigot ( Syn .: kryptomastigot) means without scourge , not scourged. For example, in a morphological form of the single-chiseled parasites of the genus Leishmania , in the amastigote form, the flagellum is not visible under light microscopy , but only rudimentary under the electron microscope . The light microscopic invisibility is due to the fact that the scourge does not emerge from the scourge sac. The amastigote form is the adaptation to the intracellular way of life in the life cycle of the parasite.
