Ambjent Malta is a semi-public agency in Malta that manages national parks and reserves as far as the Maltese state is the owner.

History and structure

Ambjent Malta was founded in August 2018 as the successor to the former Directorate for Parks, Afforestation and Landscape Management (PARK). It is a department in the Ministry for the Environment, Sustainable Development and Climate Protection of the Republic of Malta, but with a dual role as an authority and as a state agency. Ambjent Malta is led by a general manager and two directors (for beautification and for operations) as well as a board of governors, chaired by Conrad Borg Manché .

tasks

The tasks of Ambjent Malta cover all areas of nature conservation on the Maltese islands . In particular, this includes the maintenance and operation of the national parks, nature reserves and public green spaces.

Ambjent Malta manages Ta 'Qali National Park , Salina National Park and Buskett Gardens . She also supports the Argotti Botanical Gardens , Ġnien San Filippu , the Żabbar Regional Park , Ġnien L-Għarusa tal-Mosta , the Park Nazzjonali tal-Inwadar and the Majjistral Park .

The Valley Management Unit is responsible for maintaining the arid valleys on the islands, keeping them free of obstructive vegetation, debris and blown garbage in order to ensure the rapid drainage of rainwater when it rains.
