Amdavad ni Gufa is an underground art gallery in Ahmedabad , India, also known as the Hussain-Doshi ni Gufa .

The gallery was designed by the architect Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi and built between 1992 and 1995 to exhibit works of art by the artist Maqbul Fida Husain . The gallery unites architecture and art in a unique way. The cave-like walls and tree-like supports support a roof made up of a multitude of interconnected domes, which are adorned with a tile mosaic.

etymology

The gallery is called gufa ( Gujarati for "cave"). Originally it was called Hussain-Doshi ni Gufa after the architect and the artist. Later the name of the city Ahmedabad was included, which is colloquially called Amdavad .
