American Association of Retired Persons

AARP (AARP) ( dt. "American Association of Retired") is the name of a lobbying organization in the United States uses that are older for the interests of people (from the age of 50).

AARP, based in Washington, DC, is an organization known for lobbying at the state and national levels. It also offers its members reduced rates at various tourist attractions, car rentals, etc., as well as discounted health insurance. It informs its members of what it believes to be fraudulent business practices that would attempt to exploit the situation of older people.

The AARP was founded in 1958 by Ethel Percy Andrus . The organization claims to have 40 million members and offices in all 50 US states , Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands . Only half of the members are actually retired .

A special program of the AARP is “Drive to End Hunger”, the aim of which is to satisfy hunger among US seniors. The racing driver Jeff Gordon is the "ambassador" for this campaign.

Trivia

In the South Park episode "Revolution of the Old Sacks" (Season 7, Episode 10), the senior citizens have their driver's license revoked due to traffic accidents. The AARP is then asked for help, which the city quickly takes over.
