American Austrian Foundation
The American Austrian Foundation was founded in 1984 by the then Austrian Federal President Rudolf Kirchschläger . The aim of the foundation is to promote international understanding between Austria and the USA through programs in medicine, music, visual arts, diplomacy and the media. In addition, Austria's bridging function between East and West is to be used to exchange ideas.
Salzburg Foundation of the American Austrian Foundation
The Salzburg Foundation of the American Austrian Foundation was established in 1995 as the first non-profit private foundation of a new type in Austria to support scientific and cultural projects of the American Austrian Foundation.
The primary aim of the foundation is to promote Salzburg and Austria as the cultural and scientific center of Europe, but also as an important international meeting point. To this end, training and exchange programs in the fields of medicine, music, visual arts and media have been set up over the past 20 years. Thanks to these programs, more than 15,000 young people from over 80 countries have received postgraduate training.
In order to further expand the activities of the Salzburg Foundation of the AAF in the future, Arenberg Castle was acquired in 2001 .
