American Dialect Society

The American Dialect Society (ADS) is a North American learned society . It was founded in 1889 and has set itself the task of researching the English spoken in the USA and Canada as well as its influences on other languages ​​and the influences from other languages ​​in North America. The ADS also works on the Dictionary of American Regional English and the Linguistic Atlas of the United States and Canada. Since 1990 it has chosen a word of the year .
