The American Journal of Epidemiology (abbreviated to Am. J. Epidemiol. Or AJE ) is a scientific journal in which empirical research results, opinions and methodological developments in the field of epidemiological research are published in a peer-reviewed manner. The current editor-in-chief is Enrique Schisterman.

history

The magazine first appeared in 1920 as the American Journal of Hygiene . In 1965 it was given its current name, the American Journal of Epidemiology . Since inception, the journal has been based in the Epidemiology Department of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and is published in association with the Society of Epidemiologic Research .

The articles published in AJE are indexed by PubMed , Embase and some other databases. AJE offers the authors open access options. The magazine appears every six months. Entire issues are devoted to reports from Society of Epidemiologic Research, North American Congress of Epidemiology, the history of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Epidemic Intelligence Service , the life of George W. Comstock, and anniversaries of notable schools in the public health ( UC Berkeley School of Public Health , Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine , Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health ).

The AJE ranks fifth on Google Scholar in the field of epidemiology. The impact factor was 4.473 in 2018; the 5-year impact factor according to the Journal Citation Reports at 5,419.
