The 1881 by Clara Barton founded organization American Red Cross ( english American Red Cross ) is the national Red Cross Society in the United States . It is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and is based in the federal capital Washington, DC
The American Red Cross has around one million volunteers and around 35,000 full-time employees. The volunteers also included members of the American Women's Voluntary Service Organization . There are around 700 regional organizational units (English chapters ). President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organization has been Gail J. McGovern (* 1952) since April 2008 .
The tasks of the Red Cross are disaster control at home and abroad, the training of first aiders and the implementation and dispatch of blood donations .
