American Stock Exchange building

The NYSE American , formerly American Stock Exchange (AMEX) , by 2012 NYSE Amex Equities , until 2017 NYSE MKT is a Stock Exchange in New York , USA .

history

The exchange was founded in 1842 as the New York Curb Exchange on Broad Street, near Exchange Place, in New York. In 1921 the stock exchange moved its headquarters to Trinity Place. On January 5, 1953, it was named the American Stock Exchange (AMEX). On June 2, 1978, the AMEX building, erected in 1921 in Art Deco style, was declared a National Historic Landmark .

On January 17, 2008, NYSE Euronext announced the acquisition of the American Stock Exchange. Shareholders received shares valued at $ 260 million in the following months. In 2007 AMEX examined a cooperation or a merger with various exchanges. Deutsche Börse was also discussed as a possible partner or buyer . On October 1, 2008, the purchase was completed and AMEX was renamed NYSE Alternext US . Five months later, on March 6, 2009, the exchange was named NYSE Amex . On December 1, 2008, the Curb Exchange building at 86 Trinity Place was closed and the Amex Equities trading venue relocated to the NYSE trading floor at 11 Wall Street. Ninety years after it opened in 1921, the old New York Curb Market building was empty but stopped. In March 2009, NYSE Alternext US was changed to NYSE Amex Equities . On May 10, 2012, NYSE Amex Equities changed its name to NYSE MKT LLC . In June 2016, the competing exchange, IEX , which was trading with a delay of 350 microseconds, received SEC approval despite protests from the NYSE and other exchanges and trading companies. On July 24, 2017, NYSE MKT was renamed NYSE American and announced plans to introduce its own "speed bump" in the 350 microsecond range on the stock exchange for small and medium-sized companies.
