American-Cassinese Benedictine Congregation
The American-Cassinese Benedictine Congregation (Latin: Congregatio Americano-Casinensis OSB or Congregatio Americana Casinensis OSB ) is an association of Benedictine monasteries in North America, Asia and South America. The Congregation is under the patronage of the Holy Guardian Angels .
History of the Congregation
The motherhouse and starting point of the congregation is the Archabbey of St. Vincent , which was founded in 1846 as the first Benedictine monastery in the United States of America by Bonifaz Wimmer OSB from the Bavarian Benedictine Abbey of Metten . The congregation was founded on August 24, 1855 by Pope Pius IX. built. Today it consists of 20 independent and 8 dependent monasteries. Today the convents of the congregation have over 800 monks.
