With the support of the New Orleans-based CB Fox Co. Arthur and his son Felix Zivy founded Ameropa Holding AG in 1948. In the early years, the company imported US and South American grain and oilseeds to Europe and exported fertilizers to the United States. The first exports included nitrogen products from the nitrogen plants in Linz to the United States and potassium chloride from East Germany to Japan .

The subsidiary Prochaska & Cie. founded in Austria.

In the 1950s Ameropa Holding AG penetrated the South American grain market and acquired the European agency for wheat and corn sales from the Asociacion de Cooperativas Argentinas . As one of the first players in the market, Ameropa Holding AG began importing Brazilian soybeans in 1959 .

In 1970 Ameropa Holding AG founded its second subsidiary, Agri Négoce SA , based in France. In 2007 Agri Négoce employed over 130 people and achieved a turnover of over 120 million euros. In 2016, Agri Négoce, the 23 shops selling grain, oilseeds, fertilizers, pesticides and seeds, was sold to France's largest grain agricultural cooperative , Axéréal .

In the 1990s Ameropa expanded further to Germany, Hungary, Russia, Belarus, Slovakia, China and Brazil. In 1997 Ameropa supported the establishment of the chemical trading company Kolmar as an investor, which was later sold to Kolmar's management.

The largest acquisition to date was made in 2012 when the Romanian fertilizer manufacturer Azomureş and the Chimpex port terminal in Constanța changed hands.

Ameropa's core business of international trade spans 31 countries and relies on manufacturing facilities, grain silos, fertilizer warehouses, distribution centers and port mixing plants in Romania, Serbia, Hungary, Croatia, Australia and the USA.

Ameropa Holding AG exports grain, oilseeds and other products, particularly from Southeastern Europe to the Mediterranean and Asia. For special wheat products from Europe, Canada, the USA and Argentina, markets in Africa and the Middle East are increasingly being opened up. Rice is also exported from Asia to Africa.

In the chemicals sector, all types of nitrogen, phosphate and potash fertilizers are traded worldwide.

In November 2018, Ameropa prepared for the total loss of its stake in the Russian Togliatti-Azot . The minority shareholder UralChem under the leadership of Dmitri Masepin tried to take over the company by means of flimsy charges . A first-instance judgment was viewed as a judicial farce and was not enforceable in the West because of an obvious perversion of the law in Russia.
