The Amiral Duperré was an early battleship in the French Navy . It was the first to have barbettes for the four main guns (caliber 34 cm). She was a single ship and named after the Admiral Victor Guy Duperré .
service
The Amiral Duperré was launched in 1879 and put into service in 1883. While she was doing service with the Mediterranean Squadron, a gun exploded during an exercise on December 13, 1888, killing six sailors. In 1898 she was transferred to the Northern Fleet, decommissioned in 1906 and used as a target. The ship was scrapped in 1909.
