Ammoudi
Ammoudi ( Greek Αμμούδι , sandy beach ') is a bay on the south coast of the Greek Mediterranean island of Crete . It is located in the municipality of Agios Vasilios in the Rethymno regional district , about three kilometers east of Plakias , the seat of the Finikas municipality .
Geographical location
Ammoudi is a side bay of the larger Damnoni bay . Ammoudi beach is located between Damnoni in the northwest and the bay of Schinaria in the southeast. Halfway between Damnoni and Ammoudi there are two smaller bays with beaches, Ammoudaki or Mikro Ammoudi ('small sandy beach') and Klisidi , also called "Einstein", after a rock in shallow water. At the eastern edge of Ammoudi , the Elliniko stream flows into the sea, whose tributary rises near the village of Lefkogia .

The approximately 100 meters long and 50 meters wide beach of Ammoudi consists of small pebbles and is divided in the middle by a larger slab of rock in the shallow water. The bay is framed by the rocky coast. In the back area there are some low-growing tamarisk trees , which shield the view towards the hotel "Ammoudi", which is about 500 meters from the beach.
There is a beach shower on the trees. During the season, loungers and parasols are loaned out on both sides of the rock slab on the beach. The eastern section of the beach at the mouth of the stream then serves as access for divers. In the off-season, people can sometimes swim here without swimwear .
The mouth of the stream is on the east side of the beach. Due to the influence of the sea surf, the mouth area constantly changes its shape. Turtles belonging to the Caspian brook turtle can be found in the shallow, reed-covered water of the stream near the beach . Even freshwater crabs can often be seen on the beach.
The riverside path to the west to Damnoni , about 500 meters away , also leads past the two small beaches Klisidi and Ammoudaki . They are located in the middle of the rocky cliffs and can be reached via steep descents. Here you can swim naked even in the main season. On the beach of Ammoudaki (Mikro Ammoudi) , like on Ammoudi Beach, loungers and parasols are rented out .

Access
Ammoudi can be reached via a signposted asphalt access road that branches off from the road between Lefkogia and Plakias about 600 meters after Lefkogia to the south. The approximately 1.5 km long access road leads through a small ravine in which the “Ammoudi” hotel is located. Vehicles can be parked under the tamarisk trees on the beach free of charge. The road turns into a dirt path that leads to the neighboring Damnoni bay .
