Amnon Altman

Amnon Altman (born July 13, 1935 in Petach-Tikva ; † October 24, 2016 ) was an Israeli ancient orientalist and professor of Jewish and general history at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan .

Altman studied at Bar-Ilan University, where he received his doctorate with a thesis on the Kingdom of Amurru with Pinchas Artzi . He was later appointed to Bar-Ilan University and taught there until his retirement. There he became one of the founding members of the SN Kramer Institute of Assyriology .

Altman's research focused on the political history of Syria , particularly its role in the tensions between the Mittani , Hittites, and Egypt .
