Amorfrutins are a class of naturally occurring organic compounds that was first described in 1981. They belong to the group of secondary plant substances and were first discovered in the bastard indigo ( Amorpha fruticosa ), as well as in the legume plant family , namely the liquorice root .

properties

According to a study in animal models, the amorfrutins of licorice root lower blood sugar by increasing insulin sensitivity and have an anti-inflammatory effect. It is assumed that the antidiabetic effect is achieved by activating the PPAR -gamma receptor (peroxisome proliferator activated receptor). In animal experiments, Amorfrutins were also very well tolerated and not harmful to the liver.
