List of breeds of chicken |
The Amrock is a breed of chicken originally from the USA , which was further bred in Germany as a farm chicken breed. The American breed of origin is Plymouth Rock , also called Barred Rock because of the originally striped color variant. Amrock is widespread in the USA and Europe and provides excellent egg performance for several years.
Utility properties
The Amrock breed is a heavy chicken with a good egg production of around 200 eggs per year and a carcass of 2.5 to 4 kg . The breed is fast growing and chicks reach sexual maturity quickly. The meat quality is good. The breed is considered robust and has no special requirements for keeping. However, the animals tend to become obese with increasing age, which should be considered when feeding. Amrocks react to too much feed with poor laying performance.
behavior
The brood instinct of the mother hen is almost completely bred away. Breeding by a hen of this breed is accordingly difficult or even impossible. The Amrocks have a calm character without appearing apathetic and do not like to fly. The animals are easily tamed if you have the necessary patience.
Appearance
The body is bell-shaped and the crest is simple. It only exists in the striped color variant. As a specialty, the sexes differ even as day-old chicks . Roosters have a white head spot, which is also present in the hens, but looks rather scattered.
Dwarf form
There is a very common dwarf form of this breed . The dwarf Amrock cock weighs up to 1.2 kg and the hen up to 1.0 kg. The brownish yellow eggs weigh 40 grams and the laying capacity is 140 eggs per year.
