Kalvarija District

Kalvarija District (lit. Kalvarijos seniūnija ) is an administrative district in the municipality of Kalvarija , Lithuania .

history

In 1738 the Kalvarija district was mentioned in a document. Until December 21, 1999, he was in Marijampolė Raion . After the municipal reform in Lithuania, the eastern part of the district Bartninkai ( Rajongemeinde Vilkaviškis ) was added. On May 5, 2000, part of the Kalvarija District was transferred to the new Akmenynai District .

2001 lived here 5242 inhabitants in 89 villages. In 2009 there were 10,332 inhabitants, one city ( Kalvarija ) and 87 villages. The largest village, Jungėnai , has 929 inhabitants. In 2011 the Kalvarija district had 9,115 inhabitants.
