A service building or office building is a building in which a state organization operates, e.g. government , judiciary , police , customs , border guards , military and intelligence services, or a building belonging to state-owned companies such as railways , post offices and telecommunications providers . They can be owned or rented by the respective user.

Special service buildings are, for example, barracks , town halls , forest houses and city ​​gates (historical).

Service buildings can be flagged permanently or on special occasions .

In the German Federal Armed Forces , individual buildings that are not part of a barracks and do not have a special name are called "service buildings".
