Clerk

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Official clerk is the name for the historical occupation of the clerk of an office.

In some historical areas and German states, for example in the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg , the clerk was not just a clerk, but a colleague of the bailiff . For this reason he was referred to in French as "Second Bailli".

Adelung explains: "In still other places the clerk has to do only with the cheerful service of an office, and then the clerk is, partly his place, partly the district assigned to him, and finally also the place of his expedition."

A comedy by Hermann Wagner is entitled Der Amtsschreiber .
