Amy Records
Amy Records was an American music label in New York that was active in the light music sector in the 1960s.
history
Al Massler, president of Bell record company , founded Amy Records in 1960 as a sub-label of his New York company. Amy took up record production in March 1960 and began cataloging singles number 801 (The Star Steppers: The You're Gone / First Sign Of Love ).
In April 1960, the first Amy single appeared in the Hot 100 of the music magazine Billbord . With the title The Madison the band Al Brown's Tunetoppers reached the 23rd place. The Madison was then also the title of Amy's first long-playing record. With the 10th place for Midnight Mary Joey Powers achieved the first Top 10 success for Amy in 1963. The most successful interpreter was the rhythm and blues singer Lee Dorsey . He joined Amy in 1965, where he released 17 singles and two LPs, making him the record company's busiest performer. He got into the Hot 100 with seven titles and, with Working in the Coal Mine , delivered the best placement for Amy with eighth place. Del Shannon was only one rank lower with his title Keep Searchin ' . With eight singles and three long-playing records, he was also one of Amy's most active members. In addition to the local performers, Amy also published records with artists from Great Britain such as Adam Faith and Cliff Bennet .
After Larry Uttal had acquired the Bell Amy group in 1961, he had production at Amy discontinued in 1969 and only continued to run Bell Records without taking over the contracts of the Amy artists. Within ten years, Amy had produced around 260 singles and 13 long-playing records.
