At Coireán lies on the Iveragh Peninsula on a land bridge between Lough Currane ( Loch Luíoch ) and Ballinskelligs Bay ( Bá na Scealg ).

The name "An Coireán" ( Irish for "the little whirlpool") refers to the whirlpool that forms in the Currane River, the connection between Lough Currane ( Loch Luíoch ) and Ballinskelligs Bay by the confluent Finglas River ( An Fionnghlaise ) .

Actor Charlie Chaplin spent a lot of time here and there is a statue of the actor on the main street.
