Anadolu Hisarı ("Anatolian Fortress"; Ottoman آقجه حصار IA Akca-Hisar , German , White Castle ' ) is the Anatolian Bosporus shore lying castle in Istanbul in Turkey .

history

The fortress was built by Sultan Bayezid I between 1393 and 1394 on the Asian (or Anatolian, anadolu in Turkish) side of the Bosporus. Together with Rumeli Hisarı, who is on the European shore of the Bosporus, they controlled shipping traffic on the Bosporus.

The castle is one of the first Ottoman castles on the Bosphorus.

The village of Anadolu Hisarı consists of listed old wooden houses and has a small harbor on Göksu deresi , which is known for boat trips and restaurants with the best view of the Bosphorus. There is also a large Ottoman cemetery.
