The Anaheim Piranhas were an arena football team from Anaheim , California that played in the Arena Football League (AFL). They played their home games in Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim .
history
The Piranhas were founded in Las Vegas in 1994, back then as the Las Vegas Sting . It wasn't until 1996 that the company moved to Anaheim and changed its name to piranhas.
Her greatest success was the playoff entry in 1996.
1996–1997 season (AFL)
After moving to Anaheim, the Piranhas moved into the playoffs in their first season with 9 wins and 5 losses. In the first round but they lost the subsequent Arena Bowl champion Tampa Bay Storm with 16:30.
The 1997 season should end with only 2 wins from 14 season games. Shortly afterwards, it was announced that the piranhas would disintegrate.
According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, the liquidation was not entirely without success. Only three weeks before the dissolution, for example, did the owner of the piranhas change the entire management. The then trainer Mike Hohensee reported that shortly before he was informed about the piranhas, he was on a scouting tour and was planning the squad for the upcoming season. He was only informed of this when he returned. He goes on to explain that the briefing came so late that all head coach positions at other clubs were already filled at this point and that he had to get used to a less lucrative assistant coach job. Hohensee went on to say that with over 10,000 viewers on average in the first season, Anaheim was predestined for an AFL franchise. The decrease in viewers in the second season of 3,000 viewers was probably felt in the finances.
