Analecta Bollandiana

The Bollandists' Analecta Bollandiana are a biannual multilingual journal of critical hagiography . It appears in German, English, French and Italian. It has been edited and published by the Société des Bollandistes (Bollandist Society) in Brussels , Belgium , since 1882 .

It was initially founded by the Belgian Jesuit Charles De Smedt (1831–1911) as scientific support for the broad Acta Sanctorum (Latin for 'deeds of the saints') published by the Bollandists and as a new forum for research in the field of hagiography .

Each issue contains critical editions of hagiographic texts derived from the Greek , Latin or Eastern traditions and other fundamental studies of hagiography, including its modern history.

To mark the centenary, an index of the first years (1882–1982) was published in 1983 .
