The Anchor Crag ( English for anchor - rock ) is a 1210 m high cliff in Grahamland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 6.5 km north-northeast of Mount Gilbert on the northern flank of the Airy Glacier .
Aerial photographs of the formation were taken on November 27, 1947 as part of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948). The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey took a survey on November 4, 1958. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1962 after a cornice on the front of the cliff discovered by the survey , the shape of which was reminiscent of a ship's anchor.
