Andersen Viana

Andersen Viana (born April 23, 1962 in Belo Horizonte ) is a Brazilian composer.

Viana first played the guitar before taking flute lessons from his father Sebastião Viana , Heitor Villa-Lobos ' former assistant . He studied composition at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and attended courses for piano with Jacques Klein and violin, viola and chamber music with Paulo Bosísio and Max Rostal . At the Reale Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna and the Accademia Chigiana di Siena he attended film music courses a. a. by Ennio Morricone . Other teachers were Luca Salvadori , Arthur Bosmans , Radamés Gnatalli and Oiliam Lana . He taught comparative music history at the Palacio das Artes in Belo Horizonte.

Viana's work as an instrumentalist ended in a 1998 car accident in which his right hand was severely damaged. After that he turned to computer music as an interpreter. His catalog raisonné as a composer includes well over 315 titles, including pieces for solo instruments, chamber music, vocal and orchestral works and pieces for jazz ensemble. He also composed the music for around 20 films. His works are performed internationally and published on CD (including a double album with film scores with the Russian State Symphony Cinema Orchestra under his direction). He has received several awards, including first prize at the National Composition Competition in Rio de Janeiro in 1984 and the Funarte Composition Competition 2001, the prize for the best soundtrack at the 2001 Gramado Film Festival, and first prize and the audience prize at the Concours de Composition pour Orchester d ' Harmony in Lambersart 2006.
