The Gramado Film Festival ( Portuguese : Festival de Cinema de Gramado or Festival de Gramado ) is a film festival that has been held in the southern Brazilian city of Gramado every year since 1973 . The idea of organizing a film festival arose in 1969 after a film show during the “Festa das Hortênsias” ( hydrangea festival ). Because of the difficulties the Brazilian film industry was experiencing at the time, other Latin American films have been permitted in addition to Brazilian productions since 1992 .

The main venue of the festival is the Palácio dos Festivais in Gramado.
