Andi'er (ruined city)

The ruins of the ancient city of Andi'er ( Chinese  安迪尔 古城 遗址 , Pinyin Āndí'ěr Gǔchéng Yízhǐ , English Ruins of the ancient Andier City ) are in Niyan County (民丰县 Minfeng xian), Xinjiang , Republic of China (1912–1949 ) , on the southern route of the Silk Road .

The site includes an old pagoda and a former Buddhist monastery. It has existed since the time of the Han Dynasty . Since the Tang Dynasty , the Andi'er He (安迪尔 河) River had decreased in volume and was finally abandoned in the 11th century.

The British explorer Aurel Stein visited the site in 1901 and 1906 and discovered various documents in Tibetan script , Brahmi script and Chinese script .

The site was added to the List of Monuments of the People's Republic of China in Xinjiang (5-137) in 2001.
