András Jeles (* Jászberény March 27, 1945 ) is a Hungarian film director .

Life

András Jeles studied literature and film directing before he made several short films and two television plays . Since 1974 he has worked for the Mafilm studios. Little Valentino was his first full-length feature film, which was presented at the 10th international forum of young films at the Berlinale .

A kis Valentino (alternative title) is about the 20-year-old truck driver Laszlo in the middle of the city of Budapest . Instead of depositing the money entrusted to him in the bank, Laszlo decides to simply squander the money. He uses it to make purchases and take long taxi rides. He also wants to please his sick mother with a tray full of cakes. At lunchtime he dines alone at the Hilton Hotel. Later he meets an old schoolmate. During their binge drinking in a local restaurant, there is a fight with the waiter, who feels cheated on him. Laszlo has to flee before the police arrive. His day trip ends in a Budapest amusement park with the fact that he turns himself in to the police.

Jeles' second feature film from 1984 is a bizarre Bible fantasy in which only children between the ages of eight and 14 play the main roles.

László Nemes Jeles , born in 1977, is his son.
