The Annunciation is a surrealist film about the biblical story of creation. It is based on The Tragedy of Man , the main dramatic work by Imre Madách from 1861.

action

The film begins with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden . The angel Lucifer tempts them and they nibble from the tree of knowledge. Adam and Eve are driven out of paradise because of this. Adam demands that the angel Lucifer keep his promise to "reveal everything" to him. The angel Lucifer then shows Adam as a dream what effects they will have through their descendants. The history of mankind is shown in several often bloody epochs , from antiquity to Victorian London . In the end Adam is so appalled by this that he would like to kill Eve, but finally abandons it, which means that they experience God's goodwill again.

particularities

Only children between the ages of 8 and 12 play in the entire film. The film is one of the most successful and controversial productions in Eastern Europe in the 80s. It was very controversial because it contains a lot of nude scenes in which you can see Adam and Eve naked in every detail. Naked children in films were very controversial at the time. Nevertheless, the film celebrated a great success.
