András Mihály

András Mihály [ ˈɒndraːʃ ˈmihaːj ] (born November 6, 1917 in Budapest ; † September 19, 1993 there ) was a Hungarian composer.

Life

Mihály studied at the Budapest Music Academy with Leó Weiner , Pál Kadosa and Imre Waldbauer . From 1946 he was solo cellist at the State Opera, from 1950 he was professor of chamber music at the music college. In 1967 he founded the Hungarian Chamber Ensemble, which was dedicated to the cultivation of avant-garde music.

Mihály composed an opera ( Együtt és egyedül: United and alone , 1966), three symphonies , a cello, a violin and a piano concerto, a fantasy for winds and orchestra, chamber music works, piano pieces, choral music and songs . In 1971 he composed the music for the film Szerelem .
