André-Alfred Lemierre

André-Alfred Lemierre (born July 30, 1875 in Paris , † 1956 ) was a French bacteriologist .

Life

He studied in Paris, where he first became an external doctor in 1896 and then an assistant doctor in 1900. He received his doctorate in 1904, became Médecin de Hôpitaux in 1912 and later worked at the Bichat Hospital . He completed his habilitation in 1913 and was promoted to professor of bacteriology in 1926. His work concerned examinations of sepsis , typhus , biliary and urinary tract infections, kidney diseases, etc. He described Lemierre's syndrome in 1936 while working as a bacteriologist at the Claude Bernard Hospital in Paris.
