Andrés Pío Bernardino Chadwick Piñera (born January 2, 1956 in Santiago ) is a conservative Chilean politician of the Unión Demócrata Independiente and former interior minister of the country.

Life

Chadwick already belonged to the first Cabinet of President Sebastian Pinera as interior minister between November 2012 and March 2014 was re-elected as Piñera end of 2017 and the Office again took up in March 2018 and Chadwick was appointed a second time to Interior Minister of Chile.

Chadwick is a cousin of the president and was a supporter of the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship . He states that his views about Pinochet's time changed. He graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in 1979 with a degree in law . Between 1990 and 1998 he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile . He then represented the Región del Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins in the Chilean Senate.

In the wake of the 2019 protests in Chile , Chadwick spoke frequently to the media about the progress of the riots. On October 28, 2019, he handed over his office to Gonzalo Blumel as part of President Piñera's cabinet reshuffle following the protests in the country .

Private

Andrés Chadwick is a nephew of the Roman Catholic Archbishop Bernardino Piñera Carvallo (1915-2020) and cousin of the current President Sebastián Piñera .
