Andrés Sandoval

Andrés Sandoval Yanes (born August 3, 1924 in Caracas ; † May 2, 2004 ) was a Venezuelan composer .

Life

Sandoval's father Avelino Sandoval , who played the first trombone in the Caracas military band, brought him to Vicente Emilio Sojo at the age of six , from whom he received composition lessons. After taking instrumental lessons with Juan Bautista Plaza , José Lorenzo Llamozas and Eduardo Plaza , he became a member of the military band at the age of twelve, which he conducted two years later.

In 1950 he graduated from the Escuela de Música de Caracas as Maestro Compositor , perfected his violin training with Ricardo Odnoposoff and studied instrumentation with Pedro E. Gutiérrez . After his education he worked as an instrumental soloist and conductor with various orchestras in Venezuela. For twenty-four years he directed the choir of the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello .

Sandoval composed symphonic poems, suites, string quartets and songs.
